Breathe in Peace

Breathe in Peace

This song is a good Introduction to mindfulness.

I wrote this for myself for times when I need some calmness and grounding.
I’ve sung it repeatedly in the car or on walks. I sing it in my head while waiting in a medical office or during a CT scan. I’ve sung it to a distressed friend, while standing behind her, gently placing my hands on her shoulders while she sat. Even a short mindful song can be a beneficial rest for our active brain and nervous system.

Exercise

I invite YOU to breathe while listening
Breathe-in and breathe-out at your own comfortable pace.
Practice focusing your attention somewhere (other than your stress and worries).
Try following: 1/ your breath, 2/ the lyrics, 3/ the melody, the voices 4/ aspects of the music, or 5/ the nature images.

Choose what works for you in this moment. Notice when you lose focus and then choose where to put your attention. That’s the exercise. With practice and repetition new calming brain pathways are being built! There is no right or wrong way to do this.

Evidence shows that mindfulness helps to reduce stress and anxiety, and increases emotional regulation. Thank you mindful tools!

Try out your options and see what works best for you.
You may enjoy listening while taking a break, walking, doing yoga, or to relax before sleeping.

You can stream or download the AUDIO by clicking below.

OR, you may listen while watching a video with Yukon nature images by clicking below.

OR, Sing it out-loud for yourself and feel free to personalize the lyrics with language that resonates with you. For example, breathe-in whatever you need in the moment…. it may be peace or it could be hope, love, strength, patience, grace and etc.
For another example, you could replace “Universal Love” with “God’s Light” or “Creator’s Gifts” or whatever words have meaning for you.

Big THANKS to educator Mrs (Heidi nee Brook) Northover for developing this beautiful exercise using gentle movement with scarves as another mindful tool. Congratulations and thank you grade 4 class in Anchorage!

Complete your practice by naming something that you are THANKFUL for.

Wishing you PEACE
