Yukon Lullaby for Mental Health

Yukon Lullaby for Mental Health

A Note from Nicole Edwards

I’ve lived with a chronic illness for 20 years, and since the Fall of 2017, I have been limited to my bed and couch. Practicing mindfulness has become a survival tool for me, a way to cope with symptoms and loss.

This ‘Yukon Lullaby for Mental Health’ project has been my self-directed music therapy. I’m motivated to share it with the hope that others can benefit from my experience. I created and sang this song to self-soothe and cope while in distress at the hospital. My message is that we are all in this together – through light and dark times. By practicing mindfulness, we can build compassion for ourselves and others. The objective of this song is to learn a musical strategy to calm oneself and others during stressful moments. Listen to the de-escalation plan within. When we use person-centred, trauma-informed approaches: we will all win after all.
